Trench Excavation Calculator
Trench excavation such as pipeline or utility trenches: the trapezoidal section
A = h × (W + s·h)
is computed first, then multiplied by the trench length.
Disclaimer:Results are produced by deterministic formulas and are intended for quantity estimating and option comparison only. A qualified engineer must verify them against the project specification, design documents and actual site conditions before use. The author accepts no liability for any loss arising from their use.

CALCULATION
METHOD
Trapezoidal section area
A = (Wbottom + Wtop)/2 × h, where Wtop = Wbottom + 2·s·h; volume V = A × L.- Sloped pits are computed by the frustum formula:
V = h/3 × (A₁ + A₂ + √(A₁·A₂)). - The bulking factor is empirical and varies with soil type: sand ≈ 1.10–1.15, clay ≈ 1.20–1.30.
- Deep excavations involve shoring and dewatering and must be designed by a geotechnical engineer; these results are for quantity estimating only.
