Excavation Volume Calculator
Pit excavation quantity: enter the bottom dimensions, depth and side slope (horizontal : vertical) and the volume follows from the frustum formula; the bulked spoil volume is reported using the bulking factor. Enter 0 for vertical sides.

METHOD
Sloped pits use the frustum (truncated pyramid) formula
V = h/3 × (A₁ + A₂ + √(A₁·A₂)); with vertical sides it reduces to the prism V = A₁ × h; bulked spoil = bank volume × bulking factor.- Sloped pits are computed by the frustum formula:
V = h/3 × (A₁ + A₂ + √(A₁·A₂)). - The bulking factor is empirical and varies with soil type: sand ≈ 1.10–1.15, clay ≈ 1.20–1.30.
- Deep excavations involve shoring and dewatering and must be designed by a geotechnical engineer; these results are for quantity estimating only.
